More digital tools for mobile users working caseloads in remote locations. Less reliance on paper processes and manual record keeping. A more unified suite of products to assist with field work.
Background
Howard is a seasoned U.S. Probation Officer who began a career in probation with the state of Idaho. He has a mixed caseload containing sex offenders, mental health, and substance abuse cases. Part of each week is devoted to client home visits with long travel times by car.
Frustrations
Keeping track of paper versions of the PICTS assessment and having to transcribe them back into the Risk Assessment application.
Motivations
Tools and technologies for use in the field that save time, are efficient and accurate. Long distances between clients and the logistics of coordinating client visits in the field leaves little room for error. Tools that shortcut processes in smart ways can energize the work.
Challenges
Connectivity and battery life on mobile devices in remote areas is a factor and a good portion of work is done off-line for later data entry. Has to travel long distances and coordinating a successful run of client visits is challenging.
